IOWA'S OLDEST LAKE NEEDS YOUR HELP!
|
With the lake drained (photo at left) by the DNR, it is easy to see the large amount of silt that accumulated over the years. A dream to restore the lake was born by the Backbone Lake Friends. Below you see what a lot of volunteer effort did in removing 20 acres of silt from the 90 acre lake. Phase two is to further enhance the park by protecting the watershed area and monitoring silt infiltration to the lake that was originally built as a CCC project in the 1930's. |
We would like your monitary
help in restoring the remaining 70 acres of a great recreational area. Your
contribution is tax-deductible. Please address your contribution to: |

Our progress to date allowed people to start
making use of the area. Our goal is to fill the beach area and the lake with people
enjoying the great outdoors. We will post our progress reports here to keep you
informed. If you have questions, you can call 563-933-4417. If you are traveling in Northeast Iowa, stop by Backbone for a relaxing time. If you want to rent the lodge, a cabin, a canoe or a paddle boat call 563-933-4485 or DNR at 563-924-2527. |
